It can be tempting when you’re running a business to think of your objective as to ‘sell more’ but when you break down the steps before purchase you can simplify your strategy by homing in on the bit of the journey to purchase that will give you the most benefit.
So, what steps do you customers need to take before they purchase – follow your content, visit your website, sign up to find out more, get to know your product offering?
Get into a good habit of looking at and understanding what your data is telling you, and which stage of your sales funnel needs improvement. Track your followers, web visitors, subscribers and conversion to lead or sale rates over time and look at how your performance changes when you run your marketing activity. Only by tracking them regularly will you get to understand what good looks like for your business.
The other important information you need to know is where your leads and sales are coming from; what websites are the source of your traffic, leads and sales? Knowing this will inform which elements of your marketing plan to invest more in, to optimise or to cut out completely. It might feel like a bit of a pain to get set up but it will save plenty of time and money in the long run. According to Vertical Response 43% of business owners spend 6 hours or more on social media for their business (link here).
All that valuable time should have focus behind it; without knowing your goals and the value it is adding to your business, you will never know if your time might be better spent on an entirely different form of business development!
